Collection: Jimmy Hall | Solo Show

Artist Statement

Throughout his painting process, Jimmy Hall utilizes a wide range of media, tools, and application methods to create a “stack” of textured, foundational layers on the canvas. As wet surfaces dry and new layers are continually added, a gradual level of opacity is maintained via paint dilution and physical scraping. This allows the heavier, more vibrant elements of preceding layers to not only remain visible, but to serve as vital, complimentary elements to the composition.

While the final color palettes are often minimal, typically consisting of one or two colors, the underlying layers contribute complexity and depth. Ultimately, Hall’s work creates a dynamic relationship between foreground and background, with every layer playing an integral role in the finished piece.

Artist Biography

Jimmy Hall is an abstract artist based in Lexington, Kentucky.

Having started his career as a graphic designer, where artistic principles like balance, movement, and color theory were regularly emphasized, he began creating abstract paintings, using those same design elements as the foundation of his artwork. What started as a hobby gradually grew into a more serious pursuit as he discovered his preferred media and tools, and ultimately developed his unique style.

In 2019, Jimmy built a home art studio and began showcasing his work publicly. Since then, his art has been displayed in numerous galleries across the U.S., including prominent art districts in New York City, Los Angeles, West Palm Beach, Chicago, and various locations throughout his home state of Kentucky.

Outside of painting, Jimmy enjoys spending time with his wife, Colleen, and their three (large) dogs: May, Marshall, and Miller.
