Lorna Ritz

Lorna, a highly respected artist, embarked on her artistic journey in the 1960s, studying under Gabriel Laderman and Lennart Anderson. She obtained a BFA from Pratt Institute, which led her to delve into pure abstraction under the influential guidance of James Gahagan, a student of Hans Hofmann. Lorna further expanded her artistic repertoire by earning an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1971, specializing in painting and sculpture, particularly welding steel and casting in bronze and iron. Her expertise and talent landed her teaching positions at esteemed institutions such as R.I. School of Design, Brown University, University of Minnesota, and Dartmouth College during the 1970s and 80s. She also served as a "Visiting Guest Critic" at the Vermont Studio Center for over two decades and conducted impactful "Drawing Marathons" at the New York Studio School and University of Massachusetts. Lorna's profound dedication to art and teaching has left an indelible mark on the artistic community, shaping and inspiring generations of emerging artists.
